Hola!
First things first. One of my first questions when we first decided to do a backpacking trip was the accommodation. We knew that we wanted to keep our budget down in SE Asia but staying in dorms with other people, did I really want to do that? And what about the safety for my things?
But as soon as we stayed in the first hostel I totally fell in love with the hostel life! Keep my things safe has never been a problem for me. Almost every hostel I've ever stayed in have lockers for passports, money, cameras and other valuables, so tip number one (as every backpacker know) bring a locker on your trip!
Depending on where we were traveling we booked hostels through different websites but my favourite app of all time is tip number two: hostelworld! Use the app and you will hopefully find to many options!
But why do I recomend hostels now to my friends when they tell me that they are going to travel?
Easy!
1. New friends!! Most people you meet in the hostels are other travelers from all over the world.
For exampel, first night in Cancun Mexico, me and Felicia (my best friend and travelbuddie) met these 2 amazing girls from Argentina in our dorm. We traveled together during more or less a week, still keep having contact with them and will probobly catch up with them soon in life again.
2. Both locals that usually work in the reception and other travelers will give you tips and suggestions of what to do in the area, how to make the cheapest/safest/best kind of transport around the area. And also tell you about spots that you really can't miss out on!
3. Good locations. If you book through hostelworld, you can see a map over all the hostels, and you will realize that a lot of them are located in good spots, for example in the middle of the city or close to a beach.
Screenshot from when we where going to find a hostel in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Had a few choices..
4. Free hostelbreakfast! White bread, jam, butter, sometimes an egg, cerials or fresh fruits and some fizzy coffee. I've noticed thats a standard but so many hostels has it included in their already cheap price! Keeps the budget down and saturates the stomach.
5. Cheap price. Hostels are usually way cheaper than hotels and by keeping the budget down, its easier to travel longer!

6. A lot of hostels also organize their own activites such as barcrawls, barbeque evenings, poolparties etc. Or gives you a really nice price with other companies that offers excursions!
More parts of the adventure of staying in a dorm? Its not unusual that you wake up having a new mate next to your bed, I love starting the day with a new conversation! It usually happens that someone comes home at 3am and turns on the light, and then someone needs to leave earlie and forgot to pack their bag so they need to turn on the light at 5am again BUT hey, thats also a part of the charm of staying in a hostel!
So guys, does this sounds fun? Or do you prefer a singel/doubleroom in a fancy hotel?
Have a lovely tuesday!
